Tasks

WP5 is organized around a set of tasks:

  • Task 5.1  - Preparation of the “Traffic Modeling, Estimation and Control” show case
    application
    [INRIA]

The  preparation of the Grenoble south beltway system, includes:

a) the preparation of the documentation with the description of the system, its characteristics, functioning, instrumentation, problems, performance criteria, operating constraints, etc,

b) the formal definition of a set of specific control & estimation problems in relation with WP1-4.

c) the selection of a few number of modelling, estimation, and control problems that will be given to the consortium to try new solutions for the collaborative work

d) the calibration of a microscopic simulator from macroscopic data

e) the development of the interface with the system so that data collection, experiments and subsequent actions can be carried out,  with preference on a web-based remote scheme

f) the necessary actions and the development of tools (web based) to maintain contact and inform the participating teams about the show case application.

The core of the task have been completed and the show case is ready to start Task 5.2.

  • Task 5.2  - Implementation of the “Traffic Modeling, Estimation and Control” show case application  [INRIA, INRETS-LCPC, ETHZ, US, UNIVAQ, TUE, TUDELF]

Once the show case is ready, the work on the selected problems will be carried out by those contributors that had shown interest in participating in closed contact with INRIA. The teams involved will prepare reports with their results containing the method used and final results. The responsible node will promote synergies and cooperation among the participants,

a) Defining a road map for collaborative work along these problems

b) Organizing seminars and meetings for the evaluation of solutions by the consortium

c) Selecting a set of successfully tested solutions and organizing a demonstration day

  • Task 5.3  - Preparation of the “Production Management under constraints in a sugar factory” show case application  [UVA]

The  preparation of the sugar factory show case includes:

a) the preparation of the documentation with the description of the system, its characteristics, functioning, instrumentation, problems, performance criteria, operating constraints, etc,

b) the definition of optimization and control problems that will be given to the consortium to try solutions for the collaborative work

c) the preparation of models and a reduced scale simulator, with basic control incorporated, to facilitate the work of the participant teams

d) the development of the interface with the system so that data collection, experiments and subsequent actions can be carried out,  with preference on a web-based remote scheme

e) the necessary actions and the development of tools (web based) to maintain contact and inform the participating teams about the show case application.

The core of the task have been completed and the show case is ready to start Task 5.4

  • Task 5.4  - Implementation of the “Production Management under constraints in a sugar factory” show case application [UVA, UNIDO, US, INRIA]

Once the show case is ready, the work on the selected problems will be carried out by those contributors that had shown interest in participating in closed contact with UVA.

  • Task 5.5  - Call for proposals of benchmarks and selection of  candidates [UVA, INIVAQ, INRETS, UNIDO, ETHZ,  US]

In the second half of the NoE, a Call for proposals of benchmarks, covering all fields of HYCON2 will be launched. The work associated to this task will include:

a) Guidelines for the development of a benchmarks

b) Call for proposal of benchmarks

c) Preparation of proposals

d) Selection of benchmarks

e) Preparation of benchmarks

An initial Call for proposals was launch after month 6. The bechmark Startup Control Benchmark of an Integrated Thermal Separation Unit, presented bt TUB, was selected and it has been added.A new CAll will be issued after month 24.

  • Task 5.6 – Implementation of benchmarks [UVA]

a) Call for participation

b)  Implementation of experiments

c) Analysis of results

  • Task 5.7  Preparation of a web repository of  models and case studies used in the different WP [UVA]

a ) Web based benchmark environment

b)  Dissemination

c) Maintenance of the Benchmarking Service

Milestones

Some milestones are set according to the planned tasks:
                                    0                            12                           24                           36                          48

The first two: accomplishment of the preparation of the show cases have been met. In addition, the preparation of the guideline of the Call for proposals of new benchmarks is also completed and a new bechmark, Startup Control Benchmark of an Integrated Thermal Separation Unit, presented bt TUB, has been added.
